Why most transformations fail

"Most transformation fail". A post dated ... 1995. Do you ever wonder why 30 years later, this affirmation still holds?

Most transformations fail because we think too linearly. As Einstein said, "If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and five minutes thinking about solutions." Linear thinking can be limiting, and often leads to under-communication and consequently not addressing unidentified and therefore unexpected obstacles. You want to transform, think in circles and involve everyone affected in the process.

Here are some steps to get started:

1. Gather and involve everyone affected, asking each person to express their thoughts, ideas and feelings.

2. Respond to questions, dialogue, iterate about what is meaningful and/or problematic, and let ideas emerge.

3. (Re)Design your approach along with solutions that have emerged.

4. Interactively share information along the way.

Let's take action today to avoid staying stuck in old habits for another 30 years.
